Scuderia Ferrari HP drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will share the third row of the grid at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit when the Canadian Grand Prix Sprint race gets underway tomorrow.

As per the regulations, all drivers had to use Medium tyres for the first two parts of qualifying. For SQ1 and SQ2 Lewis and Charles took to the track with enough fuel to do several runs, in order to make the most of gradual track evolution. They comfortably got through to the final part. Again in SQ3, there was sufficient time to do more than one flying lap, as the track is not particularly long and the session proved to be particularly closely contested, decided to the nearest thousandths of a second. Hamilton set his best time at his second attempt in 1'13"326, just 46 thousandths off the third place time and 27 off fourth. Leclerc posted a 1'13"410.

Tonight the team will analyse all the data acquired over the course of the day to prepare for tomorrow's Sprint, while continuing to work on optimising the SF-26 on a track where stability under braking and traction out of the corners take on particular importance. After the Sprint, which will be run over a distance of 23 laps, qualifying will take place at 16 local time to determine the starting grid positions for Sunday's Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton: Today was a solid day for me right from FP and I was having a lot of fun out there. We worked really hard analysing the data over the last couple of weeks and that proved beneficial with the car feeling good throughout the session. SQ1 and SQ2 were positive and it was a shame to not quite keep that going in SQ3. Tonight we'll keep working to understand where we can extract a bit more performance from the car but I'm looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow.

Charles Leclerc: It was a tricky Sprint Qualifying on my side. I haven't been at ease in the car today, especially in terms of the brake balance, so we will look into it to find some improvements. We have a good idea of what is going on and will do everything to turn things around ahead of the Sprint.

Fred Vasseur: Both our drivers were quite competitive throughout Sprint Qualifying. However, lap times here are very close between the teams and today, a few hundredths made the difference between two places. In tomorrow's Sprint we will be looking to pick up some points and, at the same time make the most of the 23 race laps to learn more and put that knowledge to good use on Sunday in the main event.
